Photogrammetric mapping

Photogrammetric MappingPhotogrammetric mapping is a highly specialized engineering discipline that combines the accuracy of surveying with mathematical solutions using aerial photography to produce accurate planimetric, topographic, and digital orthoimagery solutions.  This technology has been used since the 1940s and is considered the most efficient method for developing and maintaining a base map.

Photogrammetric mapping is a necessary part of any serious GIS.  It provides the base mapping from which all other information is positionally related.

Early in the GIS Consortium formation this capability was identified and a formal selection process was initiated for procuring these products.  Members of the GIS Consortium saved considerable time and money by cooperatively developing these products in a unified data model.
