The Village of Glencoe is one of the founding communities of the GIS Consortium. The Village was involved in the initial formation of the organization and they continue to play an active role in its development.
The Village, like many communities, faced a range of challenges when they first considered GIS in 1995. Although the benefits of the technology were clearly evident to the staff, how to begin was the largest challenge. The Village had a strong history of CAD based mapping products, but ultimatley was looking for a more dynamic information based mapping system. The GIS Consortium provided this opportunity.
